Viz magaine #223!

Yowzer! I have a small thing in the new Viz magazine. Very proud and ashamed at the time to be soiled with this legendary publication of classy British humour and fart gags.

 New Viz - OUT NOW!
If I pull my finger out, I'll hopefully appear in the mag again soon.

(On the shelves now. 2 mags at once!)

Rise Of The Machines - Private Eye Extra

Sure there's some good to come out of technology but as is the nature of humans, we will always take things too far. Like two kids play-fighting, one day someone's going to get hurt.
So I went out into the world to hear what others thought on the state of machines in our lives. From common people using self-service machines to tech lovers that are part of their own hackerspace.

Below is a sketch of unused interviews I made in a library. They have replaced almost all the staff with self-service machines that know what books you are borrowing when you place them in a little shelf. Freaky!
Private Eye #1333 is out now everywhere!! (just £1.50 too)

For the record...

The troubles with HMV and physical music at large may not seem a world changing problem. But I tend to regard it as a prominent signpost on the path which humans are taking downhill. It's easy to declare you are a purist who only listens to vinyl or cd but it's even easier to accept the lower cost of music online is tempting.
In this weeks Private Eye, I've used HMV's problem to look at the broader picture. From London's only punk music shop to a classical music shop to a young bands first gig and their thoughts on future releases.
Grab a copy today - only £1.50. Wock 'n Woll!

Speaking of music, here is some!

Commission, my dear Watson!

Firstly, I must admit I'm in the middle of the deepest writers block I've had for years. There's an exciting list of things I need to be doing but just can't find that spark to get my brain working correctly.
Oh 'creativity', why can you be such a bell-end!?!
So it was with great pleasure I received a commission for something I'd never drawn before.
Sherlock Holmes!
It was created to join Mr Davidson's rather impressive collection of Holmes sketches...
artworkofdeduction.blogspot.ca
comicartfans.com
I also used it as a chance to test my watercolour skill.

Of course, if anybody out there has a request, I'm more than happy to take commissions. Email me to discuss.
Oui oui. Commandez moi!

2013 predictions....

Not my predictions. The public at the New Years Day Parade in London gave me their thoughts.

Trog...

On Monday I attended the opening of the fantastic Trog show at the Cartoon Museum in London. It's an inspiring show of a very talented cartoonist. It was a packed night with loads of faces in the room and I had the pleasure of chatting to the man himself.
Try to head along and see the show. The caricatures will blow you away!
And the museum is always worth a visit anyway.

Bishop Bashing

New Private Eye #1328 means new illustrated report!
Eye witness account of Church Of England's women bishop vote.
Was one of the most intense experiences of my Private Eye adventures so far.
Out now. Out now. Out now! £1.50

P.s.
We could be facing a rough time for free speech here in the UK.
It could be a case of actually appreciating the fact that our sordid leaders are cosy with the heads of the major press. That influence could ironically help retain the right to say (almost) anything one wishes in print.
Let's hope for the best.

Your Days Are Numbered, punk.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/A71vQKVCMAAR5Nr.jpg:largeSo there is this very cool magazine floating around called Your Days Are Numbered. It's pretty awesome actually. The first 3 issues have been full of excellent interviews with comic making people from Bastien Vives, Los Bros Hernandez, Jeff Lemire, Shakey Kane, Frederik Peeters and more.

Number 4 out now with chats with Brandon Graham, McBess, Karrie Fransman, Krent Able, Chris Ware and believe it or not me!
I can't remember what I said in it and I've been given the impression I may regret some of it so pick up a copy to find out
OR CLICK THIS PICTURE TO READ IT ONLINE! >>>>

There will be a competition to names the characters on the cover. You'll get a pile of books I hear.

PLUS I've done the cover! Jeepers! PLUS I've defaced the shop windows of Gosh Comics in London to match and promote the mag! Jimminy cricket!

Thanks to Steve and Jon at the mag for making me feel so special.
My books are selling out and the stock in my 15 room mansion and office has gone so I currently haven't any copies left for online orders. I 'm sure a few London shops still have copies.
Until more are printed, please squirt me an email to info@samu.co.uk and reserve a copy of either Swimming With Shoes On  or Where's North From Here? I'll let you know when they are available to order again. Ta.

New Private Eye extra!

Dog-gone Dangerous! Scene & Heard in the new Private Eye magazine #1327 out now!
I headed out into the parks and estates of south London to find the vibe on those four legged killers roaming through our society known as dogs.
Here is an extra interview that didn't make it into report...
Pick up a copy of the magazine to read the less raunchy report.

No Lying, It's Lyon!

So I have a little interview in Lyon based Zyva Magazine (see below post) and I just received a copy of the new Scarce magazine, also from Lyon. It's a whopping issue and inside there is very cool review of my book and some little drawings too. If you like in depth commentary on all things comic books, buy a copy in shops or online.(It's in French)

To celebrate this sudden love affair with France's third largest city here is a Lyon themed post!

Back in May 2012 one of the book shops I stopped at on my little book tour was Librairie Expérience in Lyon.
It's a legendary book shop that everybody seems to know about. It's very cool (literally too in the stinking Lyon heat). It's a few cave-like rooms with hundreds of drawings on the walls by some of the biggest, maddest, talented and amazing cartoonists.

As I was there to sign books, tradition had it that before I left I should squiggle on the walls too. (I picked a really awkward spot on the ceiling next to Cha, Bouzard, Larcenet, Chauzy, Jason, Guarnido and many others that are way out of my league!)

FACTS ABOUT LYON:
- They eat things called Quenelles. Delicious pillowy things in thick sauce that rhyme with 'fuckin 'ell'.
- It gets really, really hot in Lyon.
- It's kind of in the south of France. But not very south.
(click the pictures)

- Lyon has trams.
- Lyon has a big old church called Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière on top of a massive hill that you can go up in an underground funiculaire (2 minutes) and come down in sticky socks (18 hours approx).
- Kings Of Lyon are a Kings Of Leon tribute band and are not from Lyon.

(Here's a little bonus pic which didn't make it in.)
