A bon weekend in Montargis....

Yes and so another fantastic festival in the French town of Montargis has passed. It was so good to see friends again and make new ones. It's always great to have people come along to have stuff scribbled in.
This year was another stunning festival of great books, great people, great food and great memories. A massive thanks to Arnaud Floc'h for creating the festival and Francois, Marie, Thomas and all the fest staff for making it special. A big thanks to all the creators too who gave me one of the warmest welcomes ever! Bring on Montargis Coince La Bulle 2012!

Another Snow Trap review...

"This is a great little [12 page] mini. The plot is simple, the main character tries to track down a man who stole a stack of records from his shop through 6 feet of snow. The execution of this plot told with a goofy sense of humor and very nice stylized cartoony art make this a must buy. Anthologies.....

3 anthologies are on their way and I got some stuff in them!

First is Hive #5 from the US. They have a one page strip called Library Tales. If you've grabbed my book already, you may recognize it but it's nice to have some new people see it too. Pre-order now!

A while ago I mentioned this 5 page story and soon you'll find it in the forthcoming New British Comics #3. 

Then there is the newspaper format anthology called The Sorry Entertainer which is just being edited. In it will be a brand new page by me about wrestling!       I should also mention that you can find my stupid strip Benson Berner in the latest issue of Stool Pigeon music newspaper. The strip is on this blog but you get to have it in paper form and a bunch of other comics too. It's free all over the UK and other countries.

Angoulême. How it was......

If Angoulême 2011 taught me one thing, it was that there really aren’t enough hours in a day.
If it taught me two things, it was that you can get a sore throat from trying to speak French for five days.
But it is simply impossible to sum up what this event is like to experience.

For me, the event was also a chance to see my friends and fellow creators in France. But I also got to meet so many new people that now that I’m back at my desk in London, I shamefully can’t remember everyones names or where they were from. The 4 days are a little like a blur of piles of beautiful books and friendly people who welcome you into what felt like a real community of comic creators and readers.

Practically, the city is just small enough to be able to never be more than 10 minute walk from everything else.

I arrived on Weds and saw the sleepy little ville before the storm that was to come.

The next 4 days would see tens of thousands of people invade this little city and pillage it for all the comicy goodness it had to offer.
Thursday was understandably the quietest day and is considered 'Professionals' Day' because you have the best chance to go around and meet one another.
But 10am on Friday morning, the queues had begun already.

I’m struggling to really put into words all the great things that happened to me during the festival. Some hightlights included staying with my great friend Freddy Nadolny Poustochkine and the really fantastic Paul, Jonas and Matteau from Institute Posume who I also jumped around with to Britney Spears with until 3am in the morning at some strange party. Sharing a table with Scarce magazine and Tim Fish, Abbey Denson, Fred Harper and Molly Crabapple was cool as they were all really cool.

Catching up with people like Thomas Pirou, Gallium Bouzard, Giuseppe Camuncoli and more. Hanging out with my amazing French publishers Meme Pas Mal and finally meeting the whole crew and other creators like Groupil Anceique and Cha was great and so much fun.

It was a bit mind blowing to find myself amongst so many great people and I had many moments to reflect on what was actually happening.

Was it all really happening when at a 4am party, I was standing with the great Boulet to my right and the legendary Trondhiem to my left? Was I really discussing Monty Python with my heroes from Fluide Glacial? These amongst so many other things were just too cool to believe.

Was I really sitting at a table in Angoulême drawing sketches and signing books for people?

Thankfully this was all happening. And I hope to never forget it.
Many creators left on the last day but I stayed and saw the city return to it's quiet existence. Having been pillaged for 96 hours, it's little winding streets found their calmness again for another year. I learnt that is also an amazing little place which is full of creators all year round who receive grants and residencies to work on their graphic novels. Like a little BD haven.

My hugest thank yous to Xavier and Freddy because without them I may have missed all of this.

Now to get back to work!

New comic! Whoohoo!

This is the cover for my new 12 page comic which will launch at Angoulême. An English version will be available when I get back and recover from the experience.

Scarce mag #76

Scarce magazine  issue 76 will be out just in time for Angouleme and here is the review for my book which will be in it...

Charlie Hebdo #965

Ok, I got my copies of the latest Charlie Hebdo. It looks great! And I'm on page 2!

I have done a report on the lifestyles and prospects of 5 London university students for the amazing French newspaper Charlie Hebdo.
(Big thanks to Luz for helping me out with translation and everything.)

OH YES! I'm selling a bunch of prints over at Samu. They are pretty lovely, I must say. It's all inpreperation of This, don't forget.

Alt Press Fair = success!

 

Again, I took a camera to an event but was too distracted to take pictures. (I've stolen this one from Shug) It was a very cool day. I caught up with people and got to know a few more. Biggest bonus was the fact that my book and new prints went down really well. My best UK event ever! Thanks to everyone who bought something. I'm pleased you liked it enough to visit here too.

There's big news from the organizers about their event next year. It will triple in size and will include international creators! Although this one had a drizzle of French with the presence of Seb Cases and a couple of French publications floating around.
